During the week of October 21-25, we had the pleasure of hosting our partners from the European Erasmus+ Program in Cyprus and at our school (twenty students and seven teachers from Italy, Spain, and Portugal). The program’s theme is related to the protection of the environment, so students and teachers participated in hands-on workshops at the Environmental Centers of Pedoulas (an activity in Kalopanayiotis) and Cape Greco. Additionally, the students presented their projects on the topic, giving us the opportunity to learn about and compare methods applied in other countries in the effort to protect the natural environment. Students also took part in fall activities based on Cyprus tradition, a theater workshop, and more.
Moreover, in order to give our guests an introduction to our country and culture, we organized an event titled “Traveling through Cyprus – history, sounds, tastes, colors, and aromas.” They also participated in a tour at the Idalion Museum and an interactive app-based tour in Nicosia, where they explored the city in groups. Finally, our guests visited the village of Lefkara, where they were guided through the area and took part in a hands-on workshop on Lefkara lace embroidery.
Beyond the activities, however, what we will keep forever is the unique experience of collaborating and exchanging views on various topics with educators and students from other countries, and creating new friendships, realizing that there is more that unites us than divides us.
